Welcome to Bollman. My name is Elizabeth Wong and I am the Science Integration Instructor that works with the Medical Sciences programs. The 2018-2019 academic year marks my 11th year teaching at BTEC. I co-teach with the Medical Science 2 instructors, CNA and EMS Pathways, to ensure that all MS2 students earn the Pathophysiology Science Credit. I also develop instructional materials for Medical Math Integration for the Medical Sciences classes where appropiate for each unit of study. In my first seven years at BTEC, I also provided Science Integration for the Medical Sciences 1 program, teaching CP Anatomy and Physiology. I have also taught CP Physics at Bollman and I am a member of the Science Standing Committee for the Adams 12 School District. I feel that Career and Technical Education is the perfect blend of academics and practical hands-on experience in any field of study.
Prior to joining the BTEC instructional staff, I taught at a traditional academic high school for 12 years as both a Science and Mathematics teacher for students in grades 10 through 12. I have years of experience teaching CP and AP level Chemistry, Earth Science, and General Science.
I completed both my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Professional Development Program required for teacher certification at Simon Fraser University. While earning my undergraduate degree, I worked for two years as part of an academic research team involved in the organic synthesis of selenium coronand molecules used to chelate specific metal ions. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I completed two work terms in the Virology Laboratory at St. Paul's Hospital where I screened 200 patient biopsy samples for the presence of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) strains in order to establish a link between HPV infection and cervical cancer. I am a named author for several peer-reviewed scientific journal articles.
