Home Improvement & Repair is a hands-on, project-based course that covers a broad range of topics within the construction field. This program allows students to explore many of the different trades involved with residential construction. Students complete units in the areas of concrete, siding, painting, roofing, insulation, drywall, interior trim carpentry, and flooring. In addition, they receive extensive training in the electrical and plumbing trades. Students learn the proper methods to complete projects such as pouring a concrete pad, weatherproofing the home, shingling a roof, and soldering copper pipe, as well as installing and repairing items such as switches and outlets, light and plumbing fixtures, laminate and tile flooring, base and casing, and more. Applicable math concepts such as estimating are taught and utilized throughout. At the end of this course, students have the confidence and knowledge to tackle many home improvement related projects which would normally require a paid professional.
